You know it’s summer in Savannah when the weather gets balmy, summer specials make weekday stays at the Ballastone bed and breakfast more affordable – and guests in the Ballastone’s private bar start ordering white wines more often than red.
Angela Zambito is the wine purveyor who keeps that antique bar on the Ballastone’s parlor floor stocked. And she says when the wardrobe turns to strapless and sandals, white wines take the forefront.
Whatever the wine of choice, this Savannah bed and breakfast is always well stocked. The wine list always includes fine white wines, equally fine reds, and for those celebrations that seem to happen every day at the Ballastone, a selection of champagnes and sparkling wines. Beer drinkers aren’t forgotten either – witness the requests we’re taking in advance for our Fathers Day guests.
But white wines, by tradition, take center stage in the summer. The current selections include a pinot grigio by Dante out of California, a Tierra Alta Chardonney that hales from Chile, and a sauvignon blanc by Selini from New Zealand.
And if all these New World wines have you wondering about the Old World touch – relax! Ballastone offers the finest French champagne, Moet Imperial. Wines rotate seasonally so that our loyal returning guests can broaden their wine experience.
If you come in from an early afternoon tour or museum outing and want a cold beer or a wine, we’ll be happy to serve you. Our private bar isn’t miserly when it comes to hours: We pour all afternoon through to 10:45 p.m.
Wine is available by the glass. There’s even a by-the-glass sparkling wine (but of course, sacrebleu, NOT the Moet Imperial). Many of our guests choose to enjoy their wine selection when the inn serves complimentary hors d’oeuvres each evening at 6 p.m. Fine wine, some tasty nibbles, and a chance to chat with fellow travelers who share your taste for fine wines and lodgings – the perfect launch to your Savannah evening!Ballastone Inn
